The History of the Northwest Ohio
In 1999, a miracle began to happen in Northwest Ohio. Over 800 qualifying youngsters learned that they had been awarded scholarships to the non-public school of their choice. For these children and their families, this scholarship was a step out of poverty, a new chance—and a gift of hope.
Since then, the Northwest Ohio Scholarship Fund (NOSF) has been able to award tuition assistance to over 13,400 low-income K-8 children throughout Lucas, Wood and Fulton counties. Starting in 2015-2016, the program expanded to 19 counties in Northwest Ohio. Over $11.4 million has been awarded, and the results have been dramatic! 100% of NOSF scholarship recipients have graduated from a four-year high school (based on a survey of 2010 alumni), and 95% have attended some college.
The Northwest Ohio Scholarship Fund is part of the Children's Scholarship Fund (CSF) national network of scholarship granting organizations. CSF and its partner programs are committed to empowering families in need with the ability to choose the K-8 schools that best meet their children's needs, regardless of their ability to pay or where they live. NOSF scholarships are awarded solely based on the family’s need. The maximum scholarship amount is $1,500 and each family must pay at least $500 towards tuition. Funds come exclusively from private sources, giving you the opportunity to provide educational choices to families and children who often have far too few choices. Your contribution will:
- Continue to provide scholarships to the current recipients
- Expand the program to serve younger siblings of current recipients as they get old enough for school
- Expand the program to serve more of the original 6,600 applicant children seeking choice in education
